In Germany, a tragic incident occurred where a two-year-old boy and a 41-year-old man were fatally stabbed by an attacker who targeted a nursery group.
Additionally, two individuals, one of whom was a child, sustained severe injuries and were urgently taken to the hospital following the violent outburst in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria.
Law enforcement quickly responded to the situation at a nearby park on Wednesday morning, where a significant portion of the 22-acre area is currently cordoned off.
Officers said a motive for the horrific stabbing is unclear.
The suspect had allegedly been following a day care group of five young children before launching the attack.
A man, described by police as a 28-year-old Afghan national, has since been arrested.
He was named by German outlet as Enamullah O and reportedly lives in asylum accommodation.
The suspect was detained in Schoental park where the ambush occurred at around 11.45am local time.
An eyewitness told Main-Echo, a daily newspaper in Aschaffenburg, that the man was taken away “in a headlock”.
Another witness was questioned after the shocking incident.
Local train services were stopped temporarily when he tried to flee along the tracks, according to German news agency DPA.
In November 2024 local police described parts of the park as a “dangerous place”, Bild reports.
Regular foot patrols are apparently carried out in the vast park.
The Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann is due to arrive near the scene of the stabbing before 5pm local time where he will make a statement.
Cops confirmed they have no other suspects and that there is no threat to the wider public.
