SC Vet Shoots Husband Multiple Times in the Back After He Files for Legal Separation

A South Carolina veterinarian is facing murder charges after a shooting Sunday, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Augusta Press, Dr. Jennifer Kerri Ray is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

At  5 p.m. on December 1, deputies from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a home in the 1000 block of Prides Crossing in Aiken.

Deputies then went into the home and discovered Greg Baighman lying on the floor, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. They found several bullet casings near the body and a black handgun on the kitchen counter.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office pronounced Baughman dead at 6:30 p.m. after responding to the scene.

An arrest warrant indicated that Ray shot Baughman “multiple times in the back and multiple times while he was lying on the floor,”

The pair had reportedly had been separated for some time, with Baughman recently filing for divorce.

According to civil court paperwork obtained by FOX 54, the couple split on August 29, 2024, and Baughman filed for legal separation two months later. Ray requested a court order to prevent either party from touching any marital assets.

During a court hearing on Monday afternoon, Ray’s lawyer revealed that she had been a victim of domestic violence and had to be hospitalized last month due to her injuries. Ray clarified that she had not reported the abuse earlier because her husband was in the military, and she was worried that it could harm his career.

Ray remains behind bars without bond and is set to appear in court again on March 14.
