Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd says a soap fan left him 10 percent of their estate after they died - and reveals how he spent the unexpected windfall

Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd received an unexpected inheritance after a fan left him a hefty sum in their will.

The soap star, 37, who has played David Platt for the last 25 years, shared how he spent the surprise windfall – a whopping £12,000.

During a podcast chat with his co-stars Ben Price and Colson Smith, Jack shared the unusual story of being named in a fan’s will, despite never having met the person before.

Initially, Jack disclosed that he had been mentioned in the will by a dedicated postman fan from New Zealand. He revealed this detail during a Q&A session with Julia Goulding, who plays his on-screen wife Shona on the soap.

He said: ‘From New Zealand, a fan. Died, and gave me 10 percent of his estate. So cheers.’

Jack later revealed that he used the money to help cover the costs of his family holiday to America.

Upon hearing about the unexpected inheritance, Jack’s on-screen brother Ben expressed his skepticism, suspecting it to be a scam. Ben even bluntly remarked, “I was convinced that it was a scam and I said ‘that’s a scam, you’re getting f*****g scammed, I hope you’re getting scammed because I’ll be so f****d off if you’re not.'”

Jack first joined the cobbles in April 2000, taking over the role of David from Thomas Ormson at 12 years old.

He’s been at the centre of a slew of dramatic storylines, including the murder of his wife Kylie, his darker ‘Demon David’ phase, prison time and Corrie’s first male rape.

It comes after Jack announced his engagement to his long-term girlfriend Hanni Treweek.

The actor took to their Instagram to reveal their happy news in June 2024.

He got down on one knee during a romantic safari holiday in the Serengeti earlier in the month, and the couple posed for loved-up snaps in their safari getups.

Flashing her sparkling engagement ring, Hannah beamed for the camera before kissing her new fiancé.

Captioning the snaps, she gushed: ‘05.06.24 I said YES to forever!!!’

Jack and Hanni have been dating since 2017, after meeting on Corrie when she worked in the press office.

She later became a storyliner on the ITV show, before quitting to work as a fashion influencer.

In 2023, Jack detailed a terrifying fireball incident which occurred during a weekend away in the Lake District with Hanni.

The couple were staying in a cabin in a remote location with a hot tub and log fire and arrived with the help of his phone torch light as it was already getting dark.

They decided that they wanted to use the tub so Jack moved to try and get it started but it was not quite what he expected and it was harder still because of the rain.

He revealed that he was using lighter fluid to try and get a log fire hot tub working during his Valentine’s break with Hanni but that it blew up in his hand.

Jack added that there was a shoot with a hatch that he had to open, dropping logs and kindling down and hoping it caught.

Speaking on the Sofa Cinema Club podcast, he said: ‘I’m trying to light this kindling in my hand while craning my neck to hold onto the brolly to stop water from dousing out the flames.’

He shared that things soon became terrifying after he decided to use lighter fluid because he thought it would be a simpler way of powering up the hot tub.

Jack said: ‘Just as I’m pouring the lighter fluid down, of course I’ve got a bit of flame and it comes back up. Eyebrows. Brolly. And then the flame goes in the bottle. I had to drop the whole f***ing thing in.

‘The whole thing went in and then it goes up like it’s 5th November. I’m lucky I’ve still got my face.’

He revealed that it had blown up in his hand and he realised he should have put the lighter fluid down before dropping a match.
