DENVER —Police in Denver are investigating a shooting at Washington Park Sunday afternoon that left one person wounded.
Officers took one person into custody, police said.
The Denver Police Department first reported the shooting on X at 2:41 p.m., later stating that the shooting victim was expected to survive.
Police have not said if the victim was targeted or what may have led up to the shooting.
People living in the peaceful Wash Park area mentioned to Denver7 that they heard gunshots near S. Downing Street and E. Kentucky Avenue on the western side of the park.
A video from the location displays a collision involving DPD cars and a Hyundai sedan at the crossing of E. Kentucky Avenue and S. Corona Street, right next to the park.
It is uncertain if the accident is related to the shooting incident. Nevertheless, a bystander informed Denver7 that she observed officers hitting the Hyundai with their vehicles shortly after the shooting and then pointing their guns at the driver.
Denver7 contacted DPD for more information, but the department declined to provide additional details about the violent incident at a busy public park in broad daylight.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
