Still 'Very Upset': Miffed McConnell Hasn't Spoken to Trump for 'Quite a While' Over Jan. 6

In this episode of “The Misadventures of The Turtleā„¢”…

Poor Mitch. He mad. Still.

Former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) expressed his ongoing dismay towards President Donald Trump regarding the events that unfolded at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, during an interview with CBS News. McConnell highlighted his continued frustration with Trump’s perceived involvement in the incident.

It may seem peculiar that McConnell opted to discuss his grievances with Trump on CBS’s “60 Minutes” program, particularly with host Leslie Stahl, who has been accused of having a biased view. McConnell likely anticipated receiving affirmation from Stahl, who is known for her critical stance towards Trump.

Stahl kicked off the festivities, predictably ā€” knowing how McConnell would respond:

Well, we havenā€™t spoken for quite a while. I was very upset about what happened January 6.

It was game on for the two peas in a pod, as Stahl primed the pump.Ā

During the chaos of January 6, McConnell was among the leaders who had to be evacuated from the Senate chambers. He recounts the harrowing experience of his staff being present in his office while rioters attempted to breach the premises, with one individual using a flagpole to break a window into his office.

McConnell was ready.

Yeah. Well, my staff in the Capitol was putting furniture up against the doors … to prevent the rioters from outside from breaking the doors and getting at them. And what was it about? To try to prevent the orderly transfer of government, which had never happened in our country.

Stahl continued to fan McConnell’s flames.

Your staff, after the crisis was over, you went and spoke with them. You ā€“ it was a highly emotional situation. You remember?

Yeah, I remember what I told them. President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day. Thatā€™s the way I still feel about it.

Couple of rhetorical questions, Mitch.

As President Trump and a strong majority of Republican members of both chambers of Congress are working tirelessly to unite the party after four disastrous years of the Biden-Harris administration doing its best to destroy America as we’ve known it ā€” much of the destruction intentional ā€” why do you continue your unwinnable battle? Ā

And as a former Republican leader, why can’t you set aside your beliefs about events that occurred more than four years ago, in the best interests of your party and the tens of millions of Americans who decisively elected this president to a second term because they desperately wanted the changes he promised, and on which he is delivering?

I got this one. Because The Turtleā„¢ is still butthurt,Ā and that is more important to him than the state of this country.

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā

Stahl still wanted more from McConnell ā€” and she was well aware that he was more than willing to give it to her.

What are your views on President Trump and his supporters trying to change what happened on January 6? Theyā€™re calling it a ā€œday of love.ā€ They called the rioters ā€œmartyrs.ā€

Mitch went all in: “Yeah. No, itā€“ it was an insurrection.”

Stahl then broached the subject of Trump pardoning the J-6ers.

What about the pardons for the people who stormed the Capitol that day?

Shockingly (ahem), McConnell agreed:

Iā€“ I think pardoning the people whoā€™ve been convicted is a mistake.

And there it was. Whether one agrees with Trump’s pardons or the scope of them, McConnell again showed his true self ā€” including choosing “enemy territory,” as it were, to do so.
