The Dallas Police Department saw a drop in violent crime in 2024 by implementing proven strategies to proactively fight crime in Texas.
Interim Chief of Police Michael Igo shared with Fox News Digital that their initiatives aimed at reducing violent crimes led to a decrease in both the number of incidents and victims in 2024.
“In 2021, we collaborated with criminologists from the University of Texas San Antonio, and we executed a crime plan that was structured around three main phases or strategies,” he explained. “The first involved hot spot policing. The second strategy was Place Network Investigations, also known as PNIs. Lastly, the third component focused on deterrence.”
Dallas is one of two cities among the country’s largest dozen cities, along with Texas neighbor Fort Worth, that is led by a Republican mayor.
“We offered various services, such as job placement assistance and programs for drug rehabilitation, in an effort to encourage individuals to distance themselves from criminal activities,” he elaborated.
In 2024, Dallas recorded 183 homicides. (Fox News)

The Dallas Police Department reported an 8.2% decrease in violent crime across the city in 2024, including a 26% reduction in murders compared to the previous year.
The decline in homicides represents 65 fewer murder victims than in 2023, bringing the city’s murder rate to its lowest level since before the pandemic, according to data released by DPD.Â
“When you start saying 26% reduction in murders, but then you say that’s 65 less people that died this year in Dallas,” Council Member Cara Mendelsohn said, according to the Dallas Observer. “That’s incredible!”
