New York State Man Charged With Killing In-Laws, Their Dog, Burning Down Their House

A New York state man has been charged with killing his in-laws and their dog last week before setting their house on fire.

Robert J. Buda, 34, was initially arrested on arson charges for the January 26 fire, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said.

Firefighters found the bodies inside after extinguishing the blaze, and they were later identified as Paul Hait, 63, and Jo-Ann Hait, 65, identified as Buda’s in-laws by News 12.

The sheriff’s office later announced that Buda had been charged with first- and second-degree murder and aggravated cruelty to animals. Additionally, his second-degree arson charge was updated to first-degree arson.

He’s being held without bail.
