On Tuesday, Michigan prosecutors filed murder charges against the mother of a 9-year-old boy who was found buried in a shallow grave last month.
A landlord in Detroit made a grim discovery on January 6th while preparing a property for new tenants. Zemar King’s body was found buried in the backyard, with his hands and feet bound. Authorities suspect his mother, Brandee Pierce, of killing him and burying him in October, based on a report by the Detroit Free Press.
Following the alleged incident, Pierce reportedly relocated to Georgia with her 3-year-old son in November. King’s foot and shin were found protruding from the frozen ground, as reported by WDIV.
The Wayne County medical examiner ruled King’s death a homicide by smothering and compression to the neck.
Police in Brookhaven Georgia reached out to their counterparts in Detroit in late December regarding an unrelated matter involving King’s toddler son. The prosecutors disclosed that the boy is currently under the care of foster parents.
Prosecutors said King’s father only recently learned of his son’s death.
Pierce is awaiting extradition from Georgia to Michigan. She is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree felony murder, first-degree child abuse, tampering with evidence, and concealing or interfering in a death.
A motive was not disclosed.
