Ilhan Omar has responded to Texas lawmaker Brandon Gill’s statement suggesting that ‘America would be a better place’ without her, by calling him a ‘dumba**,’ as per Politico.
The Minnesota representative, aged 42, serves the state’s 5th congressional district and dismissed Gill’s idea that she should be deported, highlighting the absurdity of a fellow member of Congress advocating for such action.
Omar criticized the notion, questioning the intelligence of a colleague proposing her deportation, emphasizing her and Gill’s shared role as elected representatives in Congress.
The politician also appeared to accuse Gill of benefiting from an unfair advantage to claim his place in the US House of Representatives as opposed to her own efforts.Â
‘I’m not a nepo baby. I had to crawl my way into Congress, and I think these idiots who buy their seats have no idea what a privilege it is to be a member of Congress and what it takes,’ Omar added.
Gill, 30, a Republican congressman from the Lone Star State, posted to X on Tuesday: ‘America would be a better place if @IlhanMN were deported back to Somalia.’
The attack came as the Democratic politician hosted a series of workshops aimed at educating those who live in the country ‘illegally’ on ‘how to avoid being deported’.

‘We should have never let Ilhan Omar into our country,’ said Gill, who is currently serving his first-term as the state’s 26th district representative.
His comments linked back to a clip shared by another X user, depicting the Minnesota Democrat’s interview with a reporter discussing her ‘illegal immigrant’ advocacy program.
A spokesperson for Gill acknowledged the congressman’s controversial call, claiming her actions were ‘disgraceful.’
‘Representative Omar’s conduct raises questions about to whom she is most loyal- the American people or illegal aliens from Somalia,’ a spokesperson for Gill told The Hill.
‘Representative Gill simply stated that it is disgraceful for a sitting Congresswoman and US citizen to facilitate the invasion of our country by illegal alien Somalis.’
Omar came to the US as a refugee in 1995 and became a naturalized citizen at 17 years old in 2000. She has held the her position as a representative of the state’s 5th congressional district since January 3, 2019.
The 42-year-old politician informed Somalians who are ‘undocumented or who their documentation might have lapsed’ on what they should do if questioned by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in the now-viral clip.
‘You are not obligated to answer their questions. Just state that your are advised by a lawyer not to answer questions,’ she said in the near-minute long video.
‘Disclosure of your name, immigration status, and the mode of entry is not mandatory. Learn the laws and prepare yourself and refrain from disclosing information that you prefer them not to know,’ Omar added.
Elon Musk, 53, close ally to President Donald Trump, was among the many whom reacted to the recently surfaced clip of the Somali-American, writing Tuesday that ‘she is breaking the law. Literally. Outright.’
Omar, however, snapped back at the tech billionaire claiming Musk ‘lacks an understanding’ of the country’s laws.
‘It just shows you how much he lacks an understanding of what the laws of the country are,’ Omar said Tuesday on CNN.
‘It is important for people to exercise their Fifth Amendment rights to remain silent unless they feel confident that they have the legal protections that they need,’ she added.
‘Nobody needs to put themselves at jeopardy by speaking to law enforcement if they do not have the advice of lawyers and we continue to tell people that.’
The politician also took to X, formerly Twitter, to call the world’s richest man a ‘clown.’
‘It’s embarrassing that these people are just so easy to mislead and it’s funny how their eagerness to harass me makes them look so stupid, she wrote.

The Minnesota lawmaker previously faced deportation calls last year after a mistranslated clip of her speech, which was delivered in Somali, sparked heavy backlash.
At the time, Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, 50, attempted to censure Omar and told reporters ‘I would love to expel her; I think she should be deported, I honestly do.’
The outcry for the congresswoman’s removal from the country comes as the 47th President leads the largest mass deportation effort in US history.Â
