Blackpink star and K-pop sensation Rosé discusses little-known Melbourne upbringing and reveals whether she will return to Australia

She’s best known as a member of the mega-selling K-pop sensation Blackpink.

And right now Rosé (born Roseanne Park) has a number one ARIA hit APT with Bruno Mars.

But the 27-year-old New Zealand born singer, who was raised in Melbourne, has revealed she longs to return Down Under.

‘I would love to (come back),’ she admitted during an interview with Jase and Lauren on Nova 100 on Friday.

Rosé continued, who dropped her new solo album Rosie on Friday gushed: ‘I haven’t been back for a few years. I really do miss it.’

At the age of 16 and while studying at Melbourne’s Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College, the young singer was discovered following a successful audition for the Korean entertainment agency YG Entertainment, showcasing her talent.

Elsewhere in the chat the hitmaker said that her recent trips back ‘home’ have been ‘nostalgic’.

‘I drive past my school, I go sometimes say ”hi” to my favourite school teachers….

‘Like, I actually do all these things, like wow, I’m getting old because, I always say I want to drive past my old house in Bulleen, and we drive past and I’m always like, ”oh, my god, I remember my old dog”.’

She also reflected on recent success with Bruno Mars, with their APT tune a huge hit on the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Hot 100.

‘It’s crazy, because I was always like a shy girl at school, just normal and so it’s crazy to hear that everybody is listening to my song,’ Rosé said.

After being discovered by the K-pop giants YG Entertainment she relocated to Seoul, where she took singing, dancing, and language lessons for several years before debuting with Blackpink in late 2016.

She made a triumphant return Down Under back in 2019 with her girl group selling out shows in Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena and Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena.

Blackpink are currently one of the biggest girl groups in the world, racking up an amazing 20 million record sales and 40 billion streams.

In 2020 Blackpink scored a milestone by breaking multiple Guinness World Records.

The group smashed the record books thanks to the success of the their single, How You Like That.

The music video for the song earned 86.3 million views in its first day on YouTube, making it the most viewed video on the platform in 24 hours.

It’s also became most viewed music video on YouTube in 24 hours and the most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.

All three records were previously held by South Korean boy band BTS with their single, Boy With Luv, featuring American singer Halsey.

Previous record holders include Ariana Grande’s Thank U Next and Taylor Swift’s Look What You Made Me Do.

Later that year Rosé became the global face of Saint Laurent for the luxury fashion house’s Fall 2020 campaign.

Rosé has been revered for a number of talents – from singing to dancing – with many dubbing her ‘the golden voice’ for her angelic vocals.

But fans jokes that the K-pop star also has a mythical, supernatural ability – causing break-ups.

Fans are obsessed with the inside joke that the New Zealand-born singer is behind a number of high profile splits – including Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn and Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik – simply after being pictured in a photo with them.

Social media has dubbed the phenomenon Rosé’s ‘curse’.

According to Know Your Meme, the trend went viral on social media last year, as fans started to point out the eerie timings of the star’s snaps with A-listers in relation to their break-ups.
