Lisa Vanderpump angers fans and ex-cast members on Bravo with surprising support for James Kennedy.

In a new interview, Lisa Vanderpump defended the DJ, saying he didn’t “hurt” anyone before seemingly chalking the incident up to a misunderstanding. After Bravo fans learned of her reaction, they shared their enraged takes on social media.

After Kennedy’s arrest was made public, the Bravoverse exploded, wondering what this could mean for the popular DJ and his relationship with Lewber.

Many assumed Vanderpump would be furious about the situation; however, based on her comments during an interview with Us Weekly, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

She told readers that she had conversations with Kennedy and Lewber to ensure that both felt supported during their legal troubles. The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum also said Lewber revealed important information to her about Kennedy’s behavior during the night of his arrest.

“She told me categorically he didn’t hurt her. He never hurts her. They were both drinking,” Vanderpump said.

The SUR owner went on to say that both Lewber and Kennedy were “being ridiculous and arguing,” resulting in a run-in with law enforcement.

“[Lewber] basically said, ‘Oh yes, take him away. It’ll teach him a lesson,’” Vanderpump explained. “But no, he didn’t hurt her categorically. … She regrets what happened with how this blew up.”

According to reports, Burbank police were dispatched to a home in December 2024 following a concerning call regarding an ongoing argument between a man and a woman.

Witnesses claim they saw Kennedy arguing with Lewber and also grabbing her at one point; however, police didn’t see any visible markings on Lewber.

After investigating, police arrested Kennedy, who was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence.

The reality star was released from police custody shortly after posting $20,000 bail.

On social media, Bravo fans reacted to the news of Vanderpump defending Kennedy against the charges filed against him in California.

Throughout the replies, many watchers called Vanderpump out for repeatedly defending her male cast members, including Jax Taylor and Kennedy, who have shown aggressive behavior toward women on camera.

“She is INCAPABLE of supporting women,” one user wrote on X. “The way she lets these insidious men get a pass for their actions is BEYOND me.”

Someone else clearly agreed, writing, “She is never not finding a way to defend the man and blame the woman. It’s actually incredible.”

One “Vanderpump Rules” star who wasn’t fond of Vanderpump’s comments about Kennedy was the latter’s ex-girlfriend Kristen Doute.

The pair had a tumultuous relationship on the show, and cameras often captured many of their volatile moments.

In one season, Doute slapped Kennedy, while in another, the latter spit in his then-girlfriend’s direction after an argument.

Doute has shared details about their on-again, off-again relationship on social media, seemingly confirming that things had allegedly gotten physical between them.

After learning Vanderpump said Kennedy “didn’t hurt” Lewber following her domestic incident with the Bravo veteran in December, Doute rushed to her Instagram to blast the restauranter for her “disgustingly diabolical” behavior.

One netizen noticed her statements and agreed, saying Vanderpump needed to stop defending Kennedy, considering the “list of people who have spoken out about his behavior.”

“Always coming to his defense is giving enabling vibes,” they finished.

“VPR” fans won’t see this storyline between Kennedy and Lewber play out on the next season of the hit reality show.

In 2024, Bravo announced that it would revamp the series with an entirely new cast, meaning the OGs that watchers knew and loved would no longer have jobs.

The show’s executive producer said in a statement that they were ready to welcome in “the next batch of servers, hosts, and bartenders … with plenty of drama, situationships, and frenemies.”

Many were surprised by the news. However, the network has assured viewers that the series will have the same energy as the original run.

Vanderpump will remain a full-time cast member; however, she’ll be joined by a group of “close-knit SUR-vers who are as complicatedly involved with one another as their iconic predecessors.”
