A 50-year-old grandmother was spending the second night of her three-night trip on an island to celebrate her sister’s birthday. According to her son Shamon Payton, she was attending a rooftop party at a restaurant with her two sisters when an argument escalated into a shootout downstairs.
Payton explained that chaos erupted with people shouting for everyone to take cover. Despite this, his mother stood up and unfortunately got shot. Nearby individuals stepped in to provide assistance once the shooting began.
Duncan was killed by a stray bullet.
The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force verified that the grandmother, along with a local resident named Dario Stubbs, aged 30, lost their lives due to the shooting. Furthermore, a 29-year-old man sustained injuries during the incident.
Police said there is no evidence suggesting that any of those three victims were targeted in the shooting.
Tuesday funeral begins at 11 a.m. at Trinity Unity Church of Christ at 400 West 95th Street.
