Cleveland police arrest man in fatal shooting of 10-year-old boy, search for second suspect continues

On Monday, police arrested Jeffery Grant in Maple Heights and charged him with aggravated murder in the death of Kaden Coleman.

In connection with the fatal shooting of a 10-year-old boy in Cleveland last week, the Cleveland Division of Police announced the arrest of Jeffery Grant, a 34-year-old suspect. Despite this arrest, authorities are actively searching for a second suspect linked to the case.

On Monday, police arrested Grant in Maple Heights and charged him with aggravated murder in the death of Kaden Coleman.

On the evening of Feb. 7, police responded to a ShotSpotter alert reporting gunfire in the 3900 block of East 147th Street at approximately 7:51 p.m. Soon after, officers were informed that a 10-year-old boy named Kaden had been shot and was being transported to the city’s Fourth District police station by private vehicle.

Kaden, the young victim, had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Subsequently, Cleveland EMS took Kaden to UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead at 2 a.m. the next morning.

“The initial investigation determined that the victim was inside a vehicle in the 3900 block of East 147th Street when an unknown suspect fired multiple shots at the car as it was backing out of a driveway. Upon realizing the child had been shot, the driver rushed him to the police district for assistance,” Cleveland police noted in its release.

In addition to his arrest for aggravated murder, Grant was also booked on a parole violation warrant. Police add that a 33-year-old woman was also taken into custody on Monday and is facing drug trafficking charges.

“This arrest reflects the dedication and tireless work of our detectives and officers,” said Cleveland Police Chief Annie Todd. “We remain committed to apprehending the second suspect in this case and bringing justice to this child and his family.”

Cleveland police detectives say they are looking for a second suspect who investigators believe was involved in Kaden’s murder. If you have any information on this case, please contact the Cleveland Division of Police’s Homicide Unit at 216-623-5464.
