An ex-NFL wide receiver, a member of two championship teams with the Kansas City Chiefs, was recently taken into custody and accused of choking a woman at his residence in Georgia, preventing her from contacting emergency services.
Legal papers state that Kadarius Toney, who was traded to the Cleveland Browns in the previous year and later released in December, reportedly gripped the woman’s throat on January 14, exerting enough pressure to hinder her breathing, as disclosed by TMZ.
Toney reportedly took the woman’s phone during the assault so she couldn’t call for help.
Following the incident, warrants were issued for the 26-year-old’s apprehension on charges of aggravated assault by strangulation and hindering a 911 call on the subsequent day. He was then incarcerated in the Douglas County detention center on February 6, as reported by The Associated Press. The warrants indicate that the woman displayed reddened marks on her neck and suffered from eye hemorrhaging.
Toney was released the same day he was arrested on a $50,000 bond.
Toney played college football with the University of Florida before being drafted by the New York Giants, who traded him to the Chiefs midway through his injury-plagued second season. He played mostly on special teams for the Super Bowl champions, although he was listed as inactive for the team’s second championship in 2024.
The Chiefs released him in August, and he signed with the Browns, but his performance was lackluster, and he was released in December.
