VPR's Katie Maloney Reveals How a Former Costar Would Ruin All Their Scenes

Katie Maloney put a former Vanderpump Rules costar on blast for ruining scenes by letting her boyfriend know ahead of time what was being said.

“There’s one girl that really made a habit of that,” Maloney, 38, claimed on the Tuesday, February 12, episode of the “Boyfriend Material” podcast.

Maloney remembered feeling frustrated by the behavior of her costar, noting, “We would be filming it. We would be talking about her boyfriend or husband or whatever at the time. She’s texting him and telling him everything that’s happening, which is fine if that’s normally what you do. This is a very strange and specific thing that we’re doing. That was always frustrating because you’re like, ‘Why would you do that?’”

Despite Vanderpump Rules not being scripted, Maloney clarified that cast members typically refrained from texting each other between scenes regarding drama to avoid spoiling any surprises that could potentially unfold once cameras started rolling.

While some things never change, the cast of Vanderpump Rules is used to a shake-up … and a touch-up. Vanderpump Rules was introduced to Bravo viewers during a special episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in January 2013. Season 1 starred Lisa Vanderpump, who was a Beverly Hills Housewife at the time, Stassi […]

Maloney went on to accuse unnamed costars of trying to control how they were portrayed.

“Some people on the show definitely were trying to self-produce a lot. That would be frustrating because why are you acting this way?” she continued. “You’re just trying to be as authentically yourself as possible when you see somebody else trying on a new personality. People think that they can sway an audience’s opinion. You are just so f—ed if you think that you can predict what an audience is gonna think or feel.”

Maloney concluded: “But they would think that and they would just be like, ‘Well, I’m gonna be this [person] this season.’ You want to appeal to people more, but it never works. It blows up in people’s faces every single time.”

Maloney was an OG star of Vanderpump Rules when it premiered in 2013 as a spinoff of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills — with the show later evolving into its own hugely popular franchise. Over the years, Maloney has shared her unfiltered opinions on the show — and the offscreen dynamic between the cast — making it clear during season 11 that the once real friendships on the show were no longer legit.

“What group? They don’t even f–king hang out,” Maloney quipped on “The Viall Files” podcast in March 2024. “But I think this new chapter in life and this transition that I’ve made to really design my life and invite new people into my life and embrace friendships that I’ve been really excited and happy to have and feel like I’m really grateful for in my life.”

Several Vanderpump Rules stars have stepped away from the Bravo series over the years. Cameras started following the staff at Lisa Vanderpump’s West Hollywood restaurant SUR in 2012 after she rose to fame on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Season 1 of Pump Rules, which premiered in January 2013, starred Lisa, Stassi Schroeder, Jax […]

Maloney hinted that she was choosing more carefully who she wanted to surround herself with. “Through my healing journey, I kind of come to an agreement with myself with the standard of people I want to have in my life,” she added. “And if this character doesn’t meet the criteria, I’m just gonna not have that. And yeah, build up boundaries.”

The tension was noticeable in the aftermath of Tom Sandoval‘s affair with Rachel “Raquel” Leviss. Vanderpump Rules picked up cameras immediately to document season 11 but the episodes, however, were met with mixed reactions and ultimately the show was put on pause amid cast tension.

Bravo confirmed in November 2024 that season 12 begins production next year with Lisa Vanderpump and a brand-new group of cast members. Maloney, for her part, revealed that she didn’t plan to return for season 12 before Bravo decided to overhaul the entire cast.

“I had made a decision months ago after this past season. I needed to move on with my life,” she explained on an episode of her “Disrespectfully” podcast in December 2024. “I had talked to our producers about it and I told them my decision on that. I felt personally ready to move on from the show. I felt like my life and where I was at was moving in a different direction. Mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, I was prepared to move on from the show.”
