A Nebraska man faces charges of killing his ex-fiancee after twice being arrested on domestic violence charges and bonding out.
Casey Kindt, 54, reportedly entered the residence of Jamie Hagen, 36, and fired multiple shots at her a day after being released from jail for the second time.
Charles Hagen, Jamie’s father, commended the police department, the victim’s unit, and local law enforcement in Seward for their support. Despite taking all the necessary steps like speaking to the police, obtaining a restraining order, and involving the victim’s unit, the tragic incident could not be prevented.
Court records show that Kindt was taken into custody on December 16 on charges of making terroristic threats, domestic assault, and child abuse against Hagen and her daughter. Despite being instructed to stay away from Hagen after his release on bail, Kindt violated the order, leading to his re-arrest in early January.
He bonded out of jail again late last week after a judge minimally raised his bail, and then barged into Hagen’s home Saturday night and shot her multiple times. Police found her body and Kindt with what they described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. One of Hagen’s children was also inside the home and was not physically harmed, the Nebraska State Patrol said. That child made the 911 call.
“He was put in jail twice over this and still posted bond. If he’d of just stayed in there this wouldn’t have happened,” Charles Hagen said.
Kindt remains hospitalized with what are described as life-threatening injuries. The Nebraska State Patrol is conducting the homicide investigation and has custody of the killer.
