Jeanie Buss, the owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, and comedian Jay Mohr have been in a relationship for almost eight years and tied the knot more than a year ago. Interestingly, despite their long-standing companionship, the couple does not cohabit, at least not conventionally.
Buss, 63, talked about the unique arrangement she has with Mohr, 54, in a resurfaced clip from “In Depth with Graham Bensinger,” recorded in 2023.
As Buss reveals in an interview, their living arrangement is quite unique. Their residence comprises three units, with Buss occupying the top floor, Mohr residing on the bottom floor, and another family occupying the unit in between.
Explaining their unconventional setup, Buss points out, “Everybody is going to want to live exactly the same way. We live together, we’re at the same address, except I’m unit 3 and he’s unit 1. We don’t really want to change anything because I like my space and have my schedule, and he likes his space and has his schedule.”
Buss, however, made it clear that the couple still spends plenty of time together.
“I can take the elevator down in my slippers and hang out a little bit and go back up,” she said. “I would recommend it to any couple that feels the same way.”
Mohr backed her up, saying, “We see each other every morning, every afternoon and every night.”
The Jerry Maguire actor added that, as a guy, he didn’t feel the need to subject his wife to the “gross” things that men do.
“When you’re home alone in your bed, guys are gross,” he said. “We just make sounds, we sweat, the sheets get all wrinkly and weird. Just let her sleep like a princess or a Barbie still in the box. She doesn’t need to be subjected to me in my wrestling sweatpants just belching.”
Though Buss and Mohr began dating in 2017, they didn’t go public with their relationship until 2021. That same year, Mohr checked himself into rehab to confront his substance abuse. Buss looked back at that time in the interview, opening up about his erratic behavior and lying.
She explained that Mohr prevented her from talking to his agent and assistant, keeping everyone in his life at a distance so they “could not compare notes.”
“Finally, we all realized we were seeing the same thing and all his job opportunities were drying up because he was burning bridges wherever he was going,” she said.
Ultimately, it was Mohr’s son, Jackson, whom he shares with ex-wife Nicole Chamberlain, that kept them together through Jay’s struggles.
“I tried to date other people and just end the relationship but I was never going to end the relationship with his son,” Buss said. “I had grown attached to him and I worried about him.”
