In Marion County, Florida, a tragic accident resulted in a tree falling onto a vehicle involved, leading to the unfortunate death of the driver, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
In a release, troopers said that the crash happened along U.S. Highway 301 around 8:45 a.m. on Sunday.
Around that time, a sedan was stopped at a red flashing light on Southeast 147th Street, facing west, the release shows.
The sequence of events unfolded when a sedan attempted to turn left onto the southbound lanes of the highway, only to be struck by a southbound SUV, according to troopers.
It was mentioned by the troopers that the rear of the SUV hit a tree on the side of the road, causing the tree to collapse onto the vehicle. Tragically, the 53-year-old male driver of the SUV from Summerfield lost his life at the scene.
Meanwhile, the sedan driver — a 78-year-old man from Summerfield — refused transportation to the hospital, the release states.
