DOGE impersonators in MAGA hats tried to access digital information at San Francisco City Hall, sheriff says

SAN FRANCISCO — Three individuals, dressed in shirts alluding to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, made an unexpected appearance at San Francisco City Hall on Friday to request access to city documents, as per authorities.

The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office does not believe the men were actually DOGE representatives, the office said in a statement.

Sporting “Make America Great Again” hats, the trio entered several offices within city hall at approximately 12 p.m. local time. They demanded that employees provide them with digital records pertaining to purportedly wasteful government expenditures and fraudulent activities, the sheriff’s office reported.

The employees refused and called sheriff’s deputies. By the time authorities had arrived, the three men had already left the building.

The sheriff’s office is now reviewing surveillance videos “and using other investigative tools to pursue leads,” the office said in its statement.

DOGE, led by billionaire Musk, is the point man for President Donald Trump’s promise to trim the federal government in Washington, D.C.

Following Trump’s assumption of office, Musk has been vocal about his efforts to significantly reduce budgets across various agencies, initiated a buyout proposal for numerous federal workers, and expressed intentions to eliminate entire governmental departments.

DOGE’s activities have led to numerous federal lawsuits.
