Currently, there is no confirmation, but in the world of Cobra Kai, the spirit of Cobra Kai lives on! An upcoming film titled Karate Kid: Legends will feature Jackie Chan and see Ralph Macchio returning as Daniel LaRusso, set three years post the Cobra Kai events. The future looks intriguing for fans of the franchise.
“It was not a quick decision, because it was about protecting the Daniel LaRusso character, and finding where he would be at that point, and then protecting the whole legacy in the Miyagi-verse, “Macchio told Variety during a November 2024 interview. “Once we were able to line that up, for the ‘Cobra Kai’ story to lead into the new film — even though they’re separate ecosystems — it all made sense for me. Then, working with Jackie was just super exciting. I started this on the big screen. How cool is it to get it back to the big screen?”
The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on May 30, 2025.
There’s no official news regarding a Cobra Kai spinoff, but series co-creator Hayden Schlossberg told Screen Rant that the team has been “talking nonstop and working behind the scenes on multiple different possibilities.”
Back in July, Schlossberg, Josh Heald, and Jon Hurwitz told The Hollywood Reporter that they’d love to do a Mr. Miyagi prequel series, while the trio also hinted to Entertainment Weekly that a Hawk (Jacob Bertrand) and Demetri (Gianni DeCenzo) spinoff could potentially be in the works.
Again, there’s no concrete information, but based on the overwhelming success of Cobra Kai and the enduring popularity of the Karate Kid franchise, we expect some sort of Cobra Kai spinoff to be announced at some point.
