Georgia officials revealed on Monday that a woman who was found dead in a lake earlier this month had air in her lungs.
Spelman College instructor Joycelyn Wilson was found in Lake Oconee on February 8 after the fishing boat she was on was found circling aimlessly. Her fiancé, Westminster Schools teacher Gary Jones, was last seen at the lake two hours before the boat was found empty, according to Sheriff Howard Sills.
Gary Jones is missing, along with his phone, which was last located in the same area. Jones’ shoes were recovered on the opposite side of the lake where Wilson’s body was found.
Sheriff Sills mentioned that Wilson’s body was floating due to air in her lungs. Wilson was found with her phone, but it is uncertain if any data from the phone has been utilized in the investigation.
Several search warrants have been issued as Jones’ whereabouts remain under investigation. Reports indicated that Wilson’s death is being treated as an active investigation, not a simple drowning.
”The totality of all the circumstances … is requiring us to take additional measures to thoroughly investigate this case,” Sills on Monday.
