After a long wait of nearly three years, the movie The Unbreakable Boy is finally hitting theaters. Despite its sudden removal from the Lionsgate release schedule back then, it’s now ready for its audience, proving the resilience of the unbreakable boy in the story.
Adapted by Jon Gunn from the 2014 book The Unbreakable Boy: A Father’s Fear, a Son’s Courage, and a Story of Unconditional Love, the movie focuses on the inspiring journey of a young boy named Austin who grapples with autism and brittle bone disease. Austin’s father is portrayed by Zachary Levi from Harold and the Purple Crayon, with the role of Austin played by child actor Jacob Laval. The film also features a talented supporting cast including Meghann Fahy, Drew Powell, Gavin Warren, and Patricia Heaton.
As audiences anticipate the release, there’s curiosity about whether The Unbreakable Boy will surpass the box office success of Levi’s previous movie, Harold and The Purple Crayon, which grossed $26 million. While the outcome remains uncertain, viewers are eager to discover where they can catch the heartwarming tale of The Unbreakable Boy.
For now, The Unbreakable Boy will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in theaters in the U.S. on Friday, February 21. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. The Unbreakable Boy is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
The Unbreakable Boy is not streaming on Netflix, and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Lionsgate release, and will likely stream on Starz, the streaming platform owned by Lionsgate, instead.
You will be able to purchase The Unbreakable Boy on Amazon Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream FThe Unbreakable Boy on Prime Video free with a Prime subscription any time soon, because it is not a Prime original movie. If you want to watch The Unbreakable Boy movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Starz.
The Unbreakable Boy is not yet streaming on Starz. You might see The Unbreakable Boyon Starz in summer 2025, because that is the streaming platform owned by Lionsgate. Another Lionsgate film, Borderlands, was released on premium video-on-demand after three weeks in theaters, and began streaming on Starz on December 25, about four and a half months after the movie opened in the theaters.
If The Unbreakable Boy follows the same release pattern, you can expect to see the movie on digital by mid-March 2025, and on Starz in about four and a half months, which would be around mid-June 2025.
But this is all speculation. If you want to watch The Unbreakable Boy right away, you can watch it in a movie theater.
