A New Mexico couple was arrested on Tuesday for keeping their 15-year-old daughter in a chicken coop for months.
As per reports from KRQE, Patricia Madrid, aged 36, and Jammy Jackson, aged 59, restricted the girl to only two bathroom visits daily and sustained her on a diet solely consisting of ramen noodles. Conversely, the other kids in the household had the freedom to eat whatever they desired and were not subjected to the maltreatment.
The inquiry was initiated in September 2024 subsequent to a report lodged with Child Protective Services concerning the teenage girl. Allegedly, the girl revealed to the agency that she was confined within the coop for extended durations and endured being outdoors in severe weather conditions.
According to details provided by KOB, the victim further disclosed that she was confined to the chicken coop every day between April and September, excluding a mere three days allocated for a family vacation.
Jackson and Madrid were also accused of hitting the teen and pulling a gun on her. The couple allegedly told police that their daughter had outbursts but they did not abuse her.
During their investigation, detectives reportedly uncovered a slew of text messages between Jackson and Madrid in which they discussed the abuse they were accused of.
Madrid and Jackson are charged with child abuse and conspiracy to commit child abuse. They remain jailed without bond.
Reports indicated that Madrid was charged with child abuse in 2020, though the case was later dropped.
