‘9-1-1’ Is Heading To Nashville With New Spinoff Series From Ryan Murphy And Angela Bassett

Viewers of the TV show 9-1-1 might have felt let down when 9-1-1: Lone Star got axed by Fox last year. However, the show’s creators, Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear, are not short on ideas.

The 9-1-1 series world is set to expand with a fresh ABC spinoff called 9-1-1: Nashville, which has already been given the green light for a full season. According to reports from Deadline, Murphy and Minear will be the executive producers of the new series. They have also collaborated with Rashad Raisani, the showrunner of Lone Star, to develop the spinoff. Brad Falchuck, who worked alongside Murphy and Minear on the original 9-1-1 shows, will also be one of the executive producers, along with 9-1-1 star Angela Bassett.

The outlet reports Murphy and Minear considered several new locations for the show, including Las Vegas and Hawaii, before settling on Nashville.

Murphy has teased the new spinoff series before.

In October 2024, Murphy mentioned to Variety that he and Tim Minear are in the process of creating a new spinoff that they are writing together. With the cancellation of Lone Star, they are now focusing on launching a new show in a yet undisclosed city that promises to be exciting and entertaining.

9-1-1 moved to ABC and suddenly became, I think, the biggest show on Thursday night,” he added. “They obviously have an appetite for that, so we’re going to give them another one that I really love.”

The cast have not yet been announced as the project appears to still be in development, but the series will likely continue focusing on the high stakes experience of being a first responder.

Raisani said he “would love” to see some of the Lone Star characters return in the spinoff in some capacity.

“I think that it will have a different tone,” he told TVInsider. “It will still hopefully feel like our DNA, but in the same way that Lone Star was different than 9-1-1 and had its own feel, I think that if we can get this right, this will have its own feel.”

For now, 9-1-1 remains the flagship of the franchise, with a new season set to air March 6. Deadline reports the show will likely be renewed for Season 9.
