Luigi Mangione has broken his silence for the first time since entering a plea of not guilty to a murder charge. He chose to communicate through an open letter posted on a newly established website dedicated to supporting his legal defense.
The website, luigimangioneinfo.com, serves as a platform for Mangione’s legal team to keep interested parties updated on the case, correct any false information circulating, and release communications from Mangione during his time in detention.
“I am overwhelmed by—and grateful for—everyone who has written me to share their stories and express their support,” he writes.
In defense of the website, Mangione’s legal representatives have clarified its purpose. They state on the website’s homepage, “In response to the overwhelming number of inquiries and the show of support, this website was set up by Luigi Mangione’s legal team in New York to provide responses to commonly asked questions, offer precise details on his legal matters, and address any misleading information. The aim is to present accurate facts concerning the unprecedented multiple legal actions taken against him.”
On the FAQ page, the defense team asks supporters to limit the number of items they send. It notes, “Luigi is allowed to receive photos via Shutterfly and FreePrints in accordance with mail procedures.” It continues, “Luigi appreciates the photos that are sent and kindly asks that people send no more than five photos at a time.”
In his public statement, Mangione writes, “While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters, please know that I read every one that I receive. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to write. I look forward to hearing more in the future.”
Mangione’s new website includes a link to a GiveSendGo crowdfunding page. Supporters have been making donations to help pay his legal fees. The initial goal of $500,000 was reached quickly, and the new goal is $1,000,000.
