A massive explosion rocked a grill area at a resort in Maui, Hawaii, leaving seven people injured and debris scattered across a beach.
Reports from Hawaii News Now indicate that following an explosion at The Whaler resort on Ka’anapali Beach, at least three individuals are currently in critical condition. The victims impacted by the incident range in age from 18 to 74 years old.
“We were swimming down at the pool at the Sheraton and suddenly there was this huge, earth-shaking boom,” witness David Flint told the station.
A photograph captured at the location portrays local residents inspecting the aftermath in the grill area. Onlookers, including guests of the resort, were observed peering over the balconies to witness the extent of the damage caused by the explosion.

The Maui County Fire Department confirmed that emergency personnel were swiftly deployed to the site of the explosion incident in Kaanapali. They are presently providing aid and assistance to the victims, assuring the public that there is no ongoing danger or additional threat in the area.
Investigators put up yellow flags on the beach to mark debris that was sent flying from the grill area, Hawaii News Now reported, noting that witnesses described a possible grill malfunction leading up to the explosion.
The Whaler resort says on its website that “Our luxurious condominium-style accommodations are just steps from the pristine sands and provide access to premier resort amenities and services, all infused with the heartfelt warmth of aloha.”
