Former Norwood resident found guilty of threatening law enforcement official

GREELEY, Colo. — A Colorado man was sentenced to life in prison for beating a toddler to death in 2021.

After a three-week trial, Andy Carter, 29, was found guilty on Tuesday for the death of 18-month-old Emorie Goodro that occurred in July 2021. The 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office stated that Carter, who was dating Emorie’s mother at the time, was responsible for the severe beating of the toddler while she was in his care.

Following the incident, Emorie was first taken to Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley and subsequently transferred to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, where she succumbed to her injuries. The district attorney’s office confirmed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and brain.

During the sentencing hearing, the district attorney’s office emphasized shedding light on Emorie’s personality and character. A part of Chief Deputy District Attorney Arynn Clark’s statement to the judge was shared in the office’s press release, underlining the focus on honoring the memory of the young victim.

“[Emorie] was cherished. She was happy and healthy and was a delight to be around. It’s impossible to quantify the pain that this family has endured. It’s also impossible to quantify the happiness Emorie brought to people. This family now has a life sentence of their own as they move forward and have to live without this absolutely precious and perfect little girl,” Clark said.

Carter was sentenced on Wednesday to life in the Colorado Department of Corrections without the possibility of parole.
