A bedridden 80-year-old woman was discovered deceased and concealed in a suitcase on the banks of the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon, earlier this week. A man has since been accused of her murder.
Upon receiving reports, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the river located on Sauvie Island. Following the discovery of the body, the county medical examiner categorized the death as a homicide.
The victim was identified as Judy Hurley, also known as Judy Fivecoats.
The suspect, Michael Darwin Moody, aged 54, has been formally charged with second-degree murder and abuse of a corpse related to the victim, whose name was Hurley. Authorities took him into custody at an apartment in the St. Johns neighborhood on Thursday.
Moody is due back in court on March 3.
