A Pennsylvania man has been charged with shooting his ex-girlfriend in the head at a Port Allegany motel.
The Port Allegany Police initiated a search for a missing woman following a report from her family. They received information that her former boyfriend, Brian Kuchinka, had been staying at the Mid-Town Motel ever since their recent breakup, according to the Daily Voice.
Upon approaching Kuchinka’s room, law enforcement officers heard a gunshot and detected the smell of gun residue. They then established a perimeter around the area before getting Kuchinka on the phone with the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police.
Subsequently, a brief standoff ensued, leading to Kuchinka vacating the room. Upon apprehending him, the police discovered that he was in possession of a firearm and had sustained a self-inflicted head injury. Tragically, the lifeless body of the missing ex-girlfriend was found inside the room.
Police said surveillance footage showed Kuchinka carrying what appeared to be the woman’s body from an SUV into the room. Kuchinka was taken to an unnamed out of state hospital for treatment.
He has been charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and recklessly endangering another person.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
While police have not said where they believe the murder took place, they have asked anyone who may have witnessed a disturbance at Costa’s Supermarket in Smethport between 9 and 10 p.m. on Friday to contact them at 814-368-9230.
