ORLANDO, Fla. – Monday morning on Breakfast with Bridgett, increasing awareness for mental health care and options for veterans.
T.D. Hood is a veteran who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after serving for 5 years in a combat-related environment.
He sought therapy for his stress and anxiety and now wants to encourage other veterans who might be struggling, to reach out.
With the help of his therapist and K9s for Warriors, Hood was able to find a forever friend in his service dog, Cooper.
He says the process has changed his life for the better.
Hood expressed the belief that everyone should have access to a counselor or therapist to address issues like PTSD. Recalling his own experience, he shared, “My therapist recommended that I would benefit from a service animal, and I followed that advice.”
Moving from Maryland to Orlando was a challenging transition for Hood, as he faced difficulties in the initial three years. However, once he welcomed Cooper into his life and returned home with him, he noticed a significant improvement in his well-being and overall quality of life.
K9s for Warriors has placed more than 1,000 service dogs since 2011. For more information, head to the K9s for Warriors website.
