A mother from Florida and her male companion have been charged with child abuse. They brought a boy to the hospital who was not breathing and had burns, bruises, and other injuries at different stages of healing.

The mother, Kimberley Mills, aged 37, is now in custody while authorities are looking for her companion, Andre Walker, aged 36, according to a statement from the Tavares Police Department.

Mills and Walker showed up at Advent Health Waterman hospital around 10 p.m. Saturday with the mother doing CPR on the boy and Walker running inside to alert staff that they needed help. Nurses immediately started rendering emergency care to the boy.

“Both Kimberley and the male left the hospital after learning that law enforcement was responding to the hospital, all while the juvenile was undergoing CPR in the Emergency Department,” cops wrote.

Mills returned to the hospital after a “short period of time” with another child but Walker never came back, police said. Mills allegedly refused to give cops information about Walker’s whereabouts or even identify him. Eventually, she gave up Walker’s name to the Department of Children and Families and authorities issued an arrest warrant for accessory after the fact to aggravated child abuse, according to cops.
