A Utah man has been jailed after he threw gasoline on a woman, set her on fire, and tried to strangle her.

A man named Gregory Youngblood, aged 57, is accused of committing aggravated arson, aggravated assault resulting in severe bodily harm, and having drug-related tools after an event that took place in Ogden. The incident was reported by KUTV.

During the early morning at approximately 2 a.m., Ogden Police received a call regarding an assault. Dispatchers overheard a distressing situation where a woman was heard screaming in the background, claiming that Youngblood had poured gasoline on her and set her on fire.

Arriving officers found her in the middle of the street with severe burns on her face, chest, shoulder, and arm, an affidavit said.

According to the affidavit, the victim suffered extensive injuries, indicating that the burning resulted in severe bodily harm, potentially leading to lasting physical disfigurement.

The victim said she had been in a room with another person who had agreed to give her a ride somewhere. The person agreed to give Youngblood a ride, too, which the victim said she was angry about. At that point, she said, Youngblood came into the room with the gasoline.

After setting the victim on fire, he threw her onto the ground, straddled her, and strangled her before abruptly fleeing out the back door.

Officers found burn damage on a sofa and a wall.

At about 9 p.m. Friday, Youngblood was located in Riverdale and taken into custody and booked into the Weber County jail. He’s being held without bond and was not charged with attempted murder.

The victim’s condition is unknown.
