A public relations expert has discussed the potential outcomes if Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were to make an appearance at the 2025 Oscar Awards this Sunday. The expert also delves into why it could be a strategic opportunity for the Duchess to reshape her public image.

As the highly anticipated Academy Awards event in Los Angeles draws near, speculation is rife about the couple’s attendance, a topic that arises every year.

In the previous year, there were widespread rumors suggesting that Markle might grace the awards ceremony with her presence, fueled by the fact that their close friend, Misan Harriman, had received a nomination for his short film, The After.

However, the couple did not attend last year’s awards, or any of the Academy Awards ceremonies years prior.

But this year could be different, as Markle is launching her new cooking show on Netflix, With Love, Meghan, in a mere few days on March 4.

The show will feature her working her magic in the kitchen with famous friends such as Mindy Kaling, Abigail Spencer and chef Roy Choi.

At the same time, Markle is set to be launching her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which will supposedly feature products like jars of jam and other confections.

With a lot of new projects on the line this year, it could make sense for Markle to attend the Oscars, according to Rebecca May, PR Expert and Founder of RM Publicity.

Last year, many claimed that Markle was going to attend the awards ceremony as the couple’s close friend, Misan Harriman, was nominated for his short film, The After

‘If they were planning on attending any year, this is the year!’ May told DailyMail.com exclusively.

‘Naturally, speculation is swirling again this time round, given the timing of Meghan’s Netflix show and a perfect opportunity to put her back in the spotlight to promote the new show, “With Love, Meghan” in a global way,’ she continued.

The PR expert also explained that they could send different messages based on how they choose to represent themselves at the event.

If Markle were to attend alone, ‘it would be a career power move,’ according to May, as it would ‘signal her individual and independent desire to establish a career path in Hollywood.’

However, if they decide to attend as a couple, it could signal something else entirely. 

‘Attending together could indicate their unity and collaboration in both personal and potentially future professional partnerships,’ the expert shared.

‘Prince Harry may wish to attend to support his wife.’ 

Since Markle and Prince Harry moved back to America and stepped back from their role as working royals, the two have attended a few awards ceremonies together.

During the ceremony, Prince Harry accepted the Pat Tillman Award for Service, which was awarded to him for creating the Invictus Games, an international sports competition for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.

They also attended the Women of Vision Awards in New York City in May 2023, where Markle was a guest of honor.

They’ve also won a handful of awards at ceremonies that they haven’t attended in person, such as the 2022 People’s Choice Awards, where Markle’s now-defunct Spotify podcast, Archetypes, won the Pop Podcast of 2022 award. 

Attending the Oscars awards would be the first awards ceremony they’ve appeared at in 2025. 

‘Attending the Oscars would be a strategic statement not only to promote her new show, “With Love, Meghan,” but also an opportunity to network with Hollywood power players, from directors to producers,’ May told DailyMail.com.

‘Meghan may want to use this chance to redefine her narrative and a way to elevate herself into a Hollywood force.’

But according to May, their attendance could be a ‘double-edged sword.’

‘They therefore need to navigate wisely and be strategic with their messaging and communications on the night if they do attend to avoid potential criticism,’ May said 

It could be a great move, or one that ends with some backlash.  

‘On the one hand, it offers amazing visibility and a chance to network with Hollywood industry leaders while promoting Meghan’s Netflix show,’ she explained.

‘However, given recent controversies and public scrutiny, this may ignite more negative media attention and distract from the night or the winners,’ May continued.

‘They therefore need to navigate wisely and be strategic with their messaging and communications on the night if they do attend to avoid potential criticism.’

Speculation about a potential appearance at the Oscars comes just days after top Hollywood agent William Morris Endeavor (WME) denied that it has dropped Markle after months of speculation. 

The agency has since established that it is continuing to represent Markle and Archewell.
