An Indiana judge on Monday sentenced two men to prison for beating a man to death because the victim said he liked a woman’s legs, records show.

Vincent McCurtis, aged 31, was convicted of murder as a repeat offender and was handed a 79-year jail term. Meanwhile, Brandon Jackson, aged 24, was found guilty of reckless homicide and was sentenced to five years in prison. Their victim was Bryan Ward, a 56-year-old man killed in Indianapolis on May 14, 2023.

Authorities from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reacted to a distress call regarding an assault at a residence in the 1700 block of Howard Street in the southwest part of the city. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, later identified as Ward, with injuries indicating he had suffered severe trauma. Ward was promptly taken to the hospital, initially listed in critical condition, but unfortunately passed away the following day.

Several people were inside the home at the time of the incident and cooperated with cops. They pointed the finger at McCurtis and Jackson. According to a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, a woman told cops she arrived home next door and Ward made a comment about liking her legs when she walked inside. Ward made another flirty comment that McCurtis took exception to and said no one talked to his “sister” like that. Ward said he would no longer speak to the woman in that matter, per the affidavit.

The victim walked to his truck to leave but McCurtis and Jackson chased him down. The woman heard McCurtis screaming “tie him up,” and “get him inside” and “I’m going to kill him.” McCurtis came back to the front of the house where the woman was and asked her if killing him was what she wanted. She answered in the negative and said they should just let Ward leave, according to cops.
