Cleveland-based Mentally Mangled supports faith leaders facing mental health challenges

Kyle Early, a Cleveland-area pastor and community leader, founded Mentally Mangled after his own struggles.

Located in Cleveland, Mentally Mangled is a wellness organization that offers tailored assistance and tools to spiritual leaders dealing with mental health difficulties.

The organization was established by Kyle Early, a pastor and prominent figure in the Cleveland community. Early’s personal mental health battles, which almost led to tragedy, inspired him to create Mentally Mangled.

“At one point, I was in a dark, dark space and didn’t know how to navigate,” Early told 3News’ Danita Harris.

Having experienced the benefits of counseling and mental health enhancement himself, Early identified a gap in support for religious leaders. This realization prompted him to collaborate with fellow pastors facing similar challenges, leading to the inception of Mentally Mangled’s gathering events in a conference format.

“So, Mentally Mangled became a time for us to come together in a conference setting where we could be vulnerable and open ourselves up to the real struggles that we were facing as leaders,” said Early.

He found that many pastors did not know how to connect faith and mental health.

Stephanie Lewis is a licensed therapist who works with Mentally Mangled and believes cultural barriers are the reason most people of color do not seek mental health counseling.

Through the organization’s conferences and workshops, they hope to break down that barrier and help faith leaders of color continue their work with spiritual and mental clarity.
