An enormous part of a retired jumbo jet that served as a party space at the 2017 Burning Man Festival is being repurposed off the Las Vegas Strip.
The cockpit and a portion of the fuselage from the Boeing 747 were transported on Wednesday from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the city’s northern area to a nearby entertainment district called AREA15. This district prides itself on being a location for interactive art displays, including Meow Wolf.
According to organizers, the plane, which was stripped down following its time at Burning Man in the Black Rock Desert of northwestern Nevada, will be renovated into a venue for events and nightlife at AREA15.
“We just really want to celebrate the arts community and find immersive and experiential ways (to enjoy art), said Pearl Verzosa, the district’s marketing director. “We are open for everybody. We want families, friends, partners just to have a really good time here. And I think that the airplane will be one of those really special places.”
