Parma rally for Ukraine: Ohio leaders community gather in support of Ukraine

The event, held inside St. Vladimir Grand Hall, was standing room only as attendees gathered to advocate for freedom and democracy.

After a tense meeting at the White House between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a rally in Parma proceeded as planned the following day, attracting a large number of supporters who stressed their unwavering support for Ukraine.

The event, held inside St. Vladimir Grand Hall, was standing room only as attendees gathered to advocate for freedom and democracy.

State Rep. Sean Patrick Brennan, D-14, expressed, “Backing Ukraine is not merely a gesture of goodwill; it is an investment in creating a safer global environment,” eliciting applause from those in attendance.

Local leaders, including Seven Hills Mayor Anthony “Tony” Biasiotta, addressed the rally, calling for peace and stability in Ukraine.

“Pray that peace, freedom, and long-term security will once again belong to the proud people of the sovereign nation of Ukraine,” Biasiotta said.

U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, also took the stage, encouraging Americans to steadfastly support Ukraine and to take pride in their nation’s tradition of safeguarding democracy.

“Our job is to give them hope, and for you as Americans to teach others,” Kaptur said. “Don’t be ashamed of your history. You tell your history. You’re here because people understood what liberty is and fought for it.”

Kaptur also referenced the recent heated exchange between Trump and Zelenskyy, alluding to its potential impact on international relations.

“If you feel weak or you feel depressed as we honor this extremely important week, and what happened recently over at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.,” she said, trailing off before shifting back to a message of encouragement.

Despite tensions at the national level, Ohio leaders stressed that the relationship between the United States and Ukraine must remain one of unity and shared values.

“What’s best for the United States is also best for Ukraine,” Biasiotta added. “It’s one and the same.”

The rally featured passionate speeches, signs of support, and a resounding message: backing Ukraine is about more than just geopolitics—it’s about upholding fundamental democratic principles.
