A Kansas man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of his 1-year-old daughter.
According to The Wichita Eagle, Wichita police and EMS were called to a shooting at around 8:30 p.m. on Friday in the 2200 block of S. Santa Fe Ave.
A 25-year-old Wichita man, who is the father of the infant, has been taken into custody on charges of aggravated child endangerment and possession of a firearm by a felon, as per KAKE.
During the incident, there was another child present in the home who was unharmed and has been placed under protective care. The mother of the victim was interviewed by law enforcement officials and later released.
The infant was shot in the upper body and did not survive her injuries.
Authorities have not released any names of the family at this time.
This is an ongoing investigation.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to those who loved her and are affected during this incredibly difficult time,” Wichita Police Chief Joseph Sullivan said in a news release.
“We remain committed to seeking justice on her behalf.”
