A Florida man died in a car crash early Friday while fleeing police after allegedly stabbing his estranged girlfriend “up to 70 times.”
Authorities arrived at a residence in Chuluota around 12:45 a.m. where they discovered the lifeless body of Kristin Stevens, aged 40, who had succumbed to numerous stab wounds, according to a report by WFLA. Sheriff Dennis Lemma of Seminole County mentioned that she had been attacked “up to 70 times.”
An individual who was present inside the house during the incident informed the authorities that James Christopher Lindsey, aged 42, used a hammer to break the glass and force his way into the residence. The witness recounted waking up to find Lindsey on top of Stevens, seemingly assaulting her with a knife.
The man said he tried to get Lindsey off and was stabbed in the leg. He fled to a neighbor’s and called 911.
A 16-year-old boy was also in the home at the time but was not physically injured.
Lindsey fled the scene before the deputies reached the location. His lifeless body was discovered around 5 a.m. following a collision in Orange County. Officials stated that he lost control of the vehicle at speeds exceeding 100 mph, leading to him being ejected from the car.
Lindsey and Stevens had reportedly been in a lengthy relationship, since at least 2014, with a history of domestic violence incidents. Lindsey was charged with domestic violence battery in early November. He had been due in court on the charges later on Friday, WKMG reported.
