Digital Cinema Tech Firm CineCert Acquires Clipster Mastering System

With a month to go before the start of the annual NAB Show, digital cinema tech developer CineCert has acquired the widely-used Clipster digital cinema mastering system from German manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

CineCert, which is also a compliance test lab for studio consortium Digital Cinema Initiatives, makes digital cinema tools including the Wailua cloud and on-prem mastering system and Waimea key distribution server.

Clipster is widely used by many studios and postproduction houses, and CineCert’s objective is to further develop Clipster while incorporating it more seamlessly with CineCert tools to enhance workflow efficiency. CineCert will also be taking over the customer support for Clipster, ensuring a holistic service approach.

John Hurst, the CTO of CineCert, expressed enthusiasm about advancing Clipster, a leading digital motion picture finishing tool, which has been a standard in the industry for over two decades. He emphasized a dual strategy focusing on introducing new features and upholding the tradition of reliable professional support. By integrating CineCert’s products and code base with Clipster, users can expect more streamlined workflows and improved capabilities in automation, asset management, and key distribution.

Rohde & Schwarz, currently emphasizing broadcasting innovation, will be transitioning Clipster to CineCert. Thorsten Sauer, the vice president of media at Rohde & Schwarz, reassured customers that their needs will remain a top priority as the product moves to CineCert’s expert hands. Sauer highlighted the promising future of Clipster under CineCert’s stewardship, recognizing the expertise and focus that CineCert brings to the table.

CineCert plans to meet with customers next month at the NAB Show, which begins April 5 in Las Vegas.
