Fans were in a frenzy after Domino’s ‘finally’ added a stuffed crust pizza option to its permanent menu.
The chaotic fuss began after the restaurant chain confirmed the menu addition in a press release and on social media on Monday.
Domino’s first-of-its-kind crust pizza in the US was ’30 years in the making’ after Pizza Hut launched the same option in the 1990s.
Domino’s was hesitant about rolling out the new feature on their own due to operational concerns and various challenges they anticipated, as stated by the brand to DailyMail.com.
However, the restaurant chain decided to ‘take another look’ after noticing other brands launching the same option.
Domino’s new addition, the Parmesan Stuffed Crust Pizza, was created with the brand’s best interest in mind.
“To ensure that introducing stuffed crust pizza wouldn’t impact our store operations or staff negatively, we decided not to go ahead with launching it ourselves,” revealed Domino’s in their statement to DailyMail.com.
‘We needed to ensure it was an operationally efficient process – and one that consistently delivered a high-quality crust to customers.’
Considering the financial success from stuffed crust pizza in international markets, the Domino’s addition, with a twist, was a no-brainer.
The restaurant chain uncovered some intriguing insights during their research, one being that stuffed crust is favored by Generation Z when it comes to pizza crust. Additionally, it was revealed that around 13 million Domino’s customers opt for stuffed crust from competitors annually. This shows their strategic focus on appealing to Generation Z customers – the modern family gathering spot.
‘Finally, our research and development team needed to create the most delicious stuffed crust and one that was also uniquely Domino’s – and different from competitors.’
After the research was completed, and the company came up with a price, the stuff crust pizza was launched nationwide, already much to the happiness of Instagram users.
‘I have been waiting for this day for decades,’ a fan wrote on the chain’s an Instagram post.
‘This is the greatest day of my life. I love you dominos,’ another customer responded.
‘I’VE BEEN WAITING SO LONG!!!,’ an enthusiastic commenter wrote.
‘My friend in Germany has been rubbing it in my face that he was able to get it.’
The launch is part of the restaurant chain’s ‘National Stuffed Crust week,’ which is ongoing until March 9.
Customers can also purchase a one-topping Parmesan Stuffed Crust Pizza for $9.99 through Domino’s Carryout Deal.
Outside of ordering the pizza, fans can grab a slice – or thousands – from a month-long contest.
The pizza chain is giving away $250,000 worth of free Parmesan Stuffed Crust Pizzas through Cheat Receipts.
Customers can participate in the sweepstakes between now and March 23.
All they’d need to do is visit dominoscheatreceipts.com and upload a photo of a receipt showing they ordered stuffed crust pizza at other restaurants before March 3.
Qualified customers will be placed in a drawing, and winners will be emailed a code for the free item.
The weekly drawings will take place on March 10, 17 and 24.
Pizza Hut launched its Original Stuffed Crust Pizza at its US locations in March 1995.
The stuffed crust immediately became a fan-favorite pizza option.
‘The Original Stuffed Crust pizza was a game changer 25 years ago, and while there have been many imitators, nothing beats Original Stuffed Crust from Pizza Hut,’ former chief marketing officer George Felix said in 2021.
‘In fact, over the years, we’ve had fans ask us if they could order just the stuffed crust by itself because it’s that good…,’ he added.
The pizza chain has since introduced over 40 variations of the stuffed crust in various international markets outside the US, according to Restaurant Business.
Competitors like Little Caesars and Papa John’s also offer stuffed crust pizza.
