Mother-of-two Adele Andrews was left terrified after machete-wielding thieves broke into her home while her family slept early on Tuesday morning.

Premier Jacinta Allan insists she will fix the state’s bail rules, but a recent victim of crime is dismissing the vow as lip service.

Adele Andrews, a mother of two, was filled with fear when machete-wielding thieves invaded her Melbourne residence while her family was asleep early yesterday.

“Something is very, very wrong and I don’t know what it’s going to take for something to change,” Andrews said.

“There were changes that have been made, that we’ll need to address, we’ll have more to say soon very soon,” Allan said.

“This is my top priority to get this work done.”

According to the opposition, the actions of the Attorney-General are open to discussion. They argue that he dedicated a significant portion of last week to a promotional campaign alongside the premier as the planning minister, advocating for housing reforms.

Parliament is this week debating control of weapons laws.

The opposition’s pushing an amendment that would ban machetes completely, but Labor is not expected to back that.

“This should be a line in the sand moment for Jacinta Allan,” shadow police minister David Southwick said.

The premier said she preferred to wait for advice from her own side.

“I’m looking at what more needs to be done.”
