An incident in Illinois involved a man who had attended a wedding and then later detonated the home of the newlywed couple, leading to his own death and the death of the family’s six cats.
Anthony Avila-Puebla, aged 31, had been present at the wedding of Eleni Vrettos and Tom Davis on February 15. However, he vanished from the event and was later discovered as the individual who perished in the explosion that destroyed Vrettos’ family residence. Surveillance footage indicated Avila-Puebla carrying containers filled with a flammable substance into the house.
Police said Avila-Puebla was in a relationship with someone else who lived in the home.
Eleven families were displaced by the massive explosion and fire.
Eleni Vrettos, expressing her devastation, mentioned, “The building had been in my family for nearly four decades. I grew up and resided here, and I am actively engaged in the local community. Cicero has always been my whole world,”.
Police said Avila-Puebla parked a half a block away and carried the jugs into the home. They say he set the house on fire and never came out.
They have not identified a motive.
