Northeast Ohio's Syrian community gathers at Cleveland Cultural Gardens to celebrate the end of the Assad regime

Syria’s former Dictator Bashar Al-Assad and family’s 50 year reign over the country now over. Reports say that he and his family have fled to Russia.

In Cleveland, immigrants from the Syria region celebrate the season and the end of tyranny at Cleveland’s Cultural Gardens.

Dr. Wael Khoury came to Northeast Ohio to practice medicine, but he fondly remembers the time in his home country before the Assad family rose to power. He reminisced about a time when people lived in harmony for centuries, a heritage that he holds dear.

President Biden made a statement acknowledging the recent events in Syria, calling the seizure and downfall of the Assad regime a significant act of justice. He condemned the regime for its atrocities, including the brutal treatment and killings of hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrians.

A group of immigrants from Northeast Ohio gathered at the Cultural Gardens to celebrate Christmas with joyous songs and cheerful festivities. Among them was Dr. Khoury, who expressed hope for a historical and peaceful Christmas in his homeland after the regime change.

“So what does it mean that the Assad regime is out?  We are looking for to freedom democracy and hope the transfer of power goes smoothly.”
