A British roofer was arrested after being discovered smuggling 39 bags of drugs through an airport following a flight from Thailand.

Authorities intervened on the 29-year-old at an airport in Zagreb, Croatia, after an x-ray revealed his bag was filled with suspicious packages.

Although the man professed ignorance about the contents of his bag, he is currently under investigation for drug smuggling.

Tests showed his suitcase was crammed full with over 23kg of marijuana.

He had travelled with it from Thailand, through Istanbul and finally to the Croatian capital.

Local media reported that the black suitcase was flagged by sniffer dogs, before being taken for more thorough investigations.
