Cuyahoga County sheriff's deputy charged with assault in connection to reported domestic incident

Sergeant David Perez, 49, pleaded not guilty to assault after being arrested by the Strongsville Police Department.

CLEVELAND — A deputy with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department is facing a misdemeanor charge for assault, according to court records.

The charge against Sergeant David A. Perez, 49, was denied during his appearance in Berea Municipal Court on Monday, as shown by records. The county spokesperson, Jennifer Ciaccia, confirmed that Perez was arrested by the Strongsville Police Department on the same day.

While the criminal case unfolds, Perez will continue his active duty with the department, as per Ciaccia’s statement to 3News. After the case concludes, the department will conduct a review on an administrative level.

Reported by 3News’ media partner Cleveland.com, Perez’s arrest resulted from an alleged domestic altercation involving Perez, his spouse, and his spouse’s child. According to Cleveland.com, a son’s friend pressed charges against Perez after he intervened in a dispute between the deputy and his wife’s son and was pushed. The wife’s son accused Perez of assaulting his mother, who police noted had visible injuries.

According to Cleveland.com, Perez’s wife told Strongsville officers her injuries came from a fall, and she became “irate” after Perez was arrested. Perez is due back in court on April 2.
