Standoff at Brooklyn home ends after man seen exiting Ansonia Avenue home with his hands in air

The situation led to the Brooklyn City School District asking parents and guardians to come pick up students.

In Brooklyn, Ohio, the Brooklyn City School District requested parents and guardians to pick up their children on Thursday afternoon due to “police activity” occurring outside the Biddulph Road campus.

During the afternoon and evening hours, 3News reported on a standoff taking place on Ansonia Avenue. Police were heard using a loudspeaker to communicate with an individual inside a house. At approximately 6:15 p.m., SWAT was seen utilizing a battering ram attached to their truck to forcibly enter the front door of the residence.

Following these events, a woman emerged from the home at around 6:30 p.m. Subsequently, a man exited the house with his hands raised in the air and was apprehended around 30 minutes later. Currently, no additional details are provided regarding this incident.

The first announcement about a delay in school dismissals was posted on the district’s Facebook page at approximately 3:10 p.m., shortly after they went into a soft lockdown.

“There is no immediate threat or incident at the district campus, however, Brooklyn Police Department has advised the Brooklyn City Schools to delay dismissal until the district has received the ‘all clear’ confirmation,” BCSD stated.

At approximately 3:40 p.m., the district said it would be dismissing “car riders,” adding that school employees would be walking students to vehicles. All other students were in their classrooms with staff.

At about 4:20 p.m., the district announced that it is asking all parents/guardians to pick up their students from campus. “Due to the ongoing incident outside of the school, we will not be dismissing students to walk home. Please take your time. All students are safe and in their classroom.”

High school students who drove to school were eventually allowed to drive home with permission from their parents.

The district added that parent-teacher conferences are canceled for this evening and will be rescheduled at a later date and time.
