Police have released the name of the man arrested for the deaths of a couple in an Atlanta apartment.
Neil Russell, 44, the son of deceased woman Henrietta Russell, was taken into custody and transported to the Fulton County jail, according to WSB.
CrimeOnline previously reported that the deceased couple were Marvin Spencer, 80, and Henrietta Russell, 40. Spencer’s daughter, who spoke to WSB, identified the couple.
After being unable to contact her father or Russell, Spencer’s daughter asked for a welfare check. Police responded to the apartment on Atlanta’s West End at approximately 3 p.m. on Friday. They found Russell’s son, who threatened self-harm before barricading himself inside the apartment.
Authorities engaged negotiators in an effort to resolve the situation. After hours of negotiation, Neil Russell emerged from the apartment. He was later hospitalized for self-inflicted cuts.
Once police entered the apartment, they found the deceased couple and a woman who had been held hostage at knifepoint. Police said she was unrelated to anyone in the apartment and had met the suspect earlier in the day at a nearby transit station.
Spencer and Russell were pronounced dead at the scene, but police could not determine how long the couple had been dead.
The suspect is expected to face murder charges, as well as assault charges for the woman he held hostage, once he is released from the hospital.
