See Selena Gomez’s Floored Reaction To Golden Globe Noms For ‘Emilia Pérez’ And ‘Only Murders’: “Oh My God!”

Selena Gomez could not hide her shock when she learned she had been nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the Netflix musical Emilia Pérez.

The actress shared her candid reaction to watching the nominees be announced on CBS Monday (Dec. 9) morning. The video, shared on her Instagram Story, shows Gomez sitting on her couch when she hears her name get called for Best Supporting Actress In A Motion Picture.

“Oh my God!” she shouts as she covers her face. She also reacts to hearing Wicked star Ariana Grande has been nominated in the same category. “Oh my God, Ari! I can’t believe [it]!” she adds as she covers her head with a blanket.

She wrote on the post, “I don’t even know what to write… I’m so proud of @zoesaldana and I am so grateful and honored.”

Gomez’s Best Supporting Actress nod was just one of 10 nominations the Netflix musical received this year, including Best Director, Best Motion Picture, and Best Screenplay. Her co-stars Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofia Gascòn were also nominated.

Emilia Pérez stars Gascòn as a Mexican cartel leader named Manitas who hires a lawyer (Saldaña) to help fake her death and transition into a woman named Emilia Pérez. But she later returns to reunite with her ex-wife (Gomez) and family.

Gomez congratulated her co-stars with posts to her Instagram Story. “Mi amor, I am so proud and grateful to know you!” she wrote in a post addressed to Gascòn, whose historic nomination marks the first time an out transgender woman has been nominated in a film category.

She also gave a shoutout to Saldaña and the entire Emilia Perez crew.

“Congratulations to my Emilia family!!! Mama @zoesaldana YES!!!!” she wrote.

Gomez was also nominated for the third time in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy category for her work in Only Murders in the Building. “So proud of my @onlymurdershulu family!!!” she wrote in her Instagram Story with a photo of herself, Steve Martin, and Martin Short together on set.

This nomination comes after the former Disney actress responded to the reported criticisms people had of her performance in Emilia Pérez, most pointedly that of Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez, who said her performance was “indefensible” and criticized her Spanish-speaking skills in the movie.

His statements later made it back to Gomez, who replied to a clip from the interview on TikTok. “I understand where you are coming from. I’m sorry I did the best I could with the time I was given,” she commented, per Deadline. “Doesn’t take away from how much work and heart I put into this movie.”

Derbez later walked back his claims and issued an apology to Gomez. “I truly apologize for my careless comments—they are indefensible and go against everything I stand for,” he said in a TikTok. “As Latinos, we should always support one another. There’s no excuse. I was wrong, and I deeply admire your career and your kind heart.”

Now, it remains to be seen if Gomez will finally get that Golden Globe after being nominated four times over the years.

The 82nd Annual Golden Globes air on CBS Sunday, Jan. 5, at 8/7C and will stream on Paramount+.

Emilia Pérez is streaming now on Netflix.
