‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’ Renewed for Season 3 on Max; Season 2 Sets May Premiere

Fresh off earning critical raves for hosting the Oscars last week, Conan O’Brien is receiving more good news: Max has renewed his Emmy-winning comedic travel series, “Conan O’Brien Must Go,” for a third season. News comes ahead of the show’s upcoming Season 2 return this May.

In the show’s new batch of episodes, O’Brien will visit New Zealand, Austria and Spain. (Scroll down for more first-look photos from the upcoming journeys.) “Conan O’Brien Must Go” was inspired by O’Brien’s special “Conan Without Borders” episodes that used to air alongside his latenight talker on TBS, and follows O’Brien as he surprises people whom he meets through his podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan.”

In Season 1, O’Brien traveled to Norway, Thailand, Argentina, and Ireland. The first season received critical acclaim upon its release in April 2024; Variety‘s review noted that “The encounters work because O’Brien doesn’t treat his new friends as fools — rather, he revels in the fact that he is the fool.”

“Conan O’Brien Must Go” was previously renewed for Season 2 last May at Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation to advertisers. Conaco produces “Conan O’Brien Must Go,” with O’Brien and Jeff Ross serving as executive producers.

“Working with Conan and his team on ‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’ is the trip of a lifetime,” said Nina Rosenstein, executive vice president, HBO Programming, Late Night & Specials. “They’re annoyingly brilliant and no one can make locals feel as deeply uncomfortable in their own country as Conan can……this season in lederhosen.”

At the 2024 Emmys, “Conan O’Brien Must Go” won for outstanding writing for a nonfiction program, and also received an Emmy nom for outstanding hosted nonfiction series or special. Here’s a look at some of Season 2’s upcoming episodes — including the return of O’Brien’s staff frenemy Jordan Schlansky.
